Hover, WA historic buildings

The town of Hover ceased to exist in 1957 when the McNary dam was built and covered much of the town site in the rising waters of Lake Wallula.

Key: Building is still standing. Building has been torn down.

Railroad section house (c1907) 11520 Bowles Road (moved)

The railroad section house was originally located in the town of Hover near the river by the old SP&S railroad tracks. In the early 1950s, it was moved to its present location to escape the rising waters of lake Wallula.

Hover Depot (c1907?) 11520 Bowles Road (moved)

This building was also moved to its present location in the early 1950s. The exact date of construction is difficult to determine because of extensive modifications of the building.

All that is left today

The Hover High School was constructed to replace the previous school building (built in 1923) that burned during Christmas vacation, 1924. Until 1933, it was known as the Hover High School, but following a school district consolidation with the town of Finley, the name was changed to River View High School. River View High School lasted until 1957, when Hover became a ghost town and the school was abandoned. After 1957, an elementary school building in Finley became the River View High School.
